Stomach pain?

I woke up at about 2:00a.m. two nights ago with a gnawing stomach ache. It wasn't really nausea, just pain. It's a slightly to the left side right under my ribs. It seems to get worse when I lay down and when I'm really active. I know it's not heartburn (I've had that before and besides I've already tried antacids to no avail). Does anybody know what it could be and how to get rid of it?

Answer:
If you have bowel problems it could be irritable bowel syndrome. However, it could be your kidneys. I suggest seeing a gastrointestinologist or endocrinologist.
Did you have diverticulosis?
appendicitis.
I had this a few weeks ago. My mom said it was just a germ virus. I took Pepto Bismo everynight for a week before I went to bed and I was better if you need any more information e-mail me kink12372@yahoo.com
had the same thing.for a week it went away by it self
I had something like that last year. I went to several doctors including the head of gastroenterology at the University of Michigan. After tens of thousands of dollars worth of very invasive tests and several trips to the emergency room, I was diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome. That basically means "there is something wrong with my GI system that has no rules and no cure"

Unfortunately, the only way to determine that it is not something horrible, like chrons, cancer, gall bladder ... is to do the tests.

Try to eat carefully - no caffeine, soda, nuts, spice, fat, alcohol ... anything that might possibly cause trouble. Then every time you have pain write a journal of what you ate, what stress you were under ... and see if there is a pattern. When you are feeling good, try the bad foods (one at a time) and see what happens (everyone is different)

Check out helpforibs.com They have some good info. It may be something besides IBS but it is a good place to start because it is really common. The nice thing about IBS (if there can be a nice thing) is that it comes and goes. You can feel bad for a few weeks or longer, then feel great for a long time.

Good luck
