How do you tell your child that their skin does not matter?

My daughter was born w/accute case of exema and she is 16 now...how do you tell her to ignore what people say about her skin...her feelings are really hurt because she can't even get a boyfriend because of it

Answer:
What you need to tell her is that ultimately skin doesn't matter but that we live in a world that doesn't always look at the important things, so her pain is very real. You need to be sure to let her know that her feelings are totally valid and that you are suffering with her. Having you on her side acknowledging and sharing her emotions is the best way to build inner strength in her. Let her know you feel her pain and how much it sucks to be 16 and not able to date because of a skin condition. With her feelings out in the open and you taking some of the burden, she's more likely to develop into an emtionally mature woman who is strong enough to love herself and even eventually find the special man who sees past her skin.
Unfortunately, telling her that her skin doesn't matter is a lie. We live in a shallow society where things like that do matter. You'd be better off finding more practical ways of dealing with it than trying to convince her life is some utopia.
Its hard to tell your child that, the problem will haunt her forever but tell her that don't listen to what people say. Tell her to think for her self and not what everything thinks of her. Make her feel confident and tell her to ignore those things. Be sucessful and focus on that then her skin.
Well no metter what you say, those are things she needs to take as a part of her. People are mean, we (of course I don't want to seperate myself from people...) can try and hunt for other people's lacking. Depending on her willpower she can try and deal with it herself. There is also "Emotion freedome technique" known as EFT. I don't practice that, even though I used it few times and I can say that it is useful. Take a look and... Well "Mother knows the best".
