Question about depression.. I want to know if something is normal or not..?
I am a 19 year old female who is mostly healthy with the exception of always being (a lot) colder than everyone else. Basically all my life I've always gotten moody when I don't get sleep (who doesn't) but a thing I find strange is that often at night (even if I'm not at all tired), if I have a problem I get very depressed. Like as if I am suffering from a form of depression, I get listless, tired, don't want to see anyone, feel extremely sad, don't want to eat and feel very hopeless, which often leads to me crying and wishing I wasn't alive (not suicidal.. just wishing I wasn't here so I didn't have to deal with stuff). But then I go to bed.. and in the morning I always feel better. Like as if nothing ever happened.. even if something is still upsetting me.. it's nowhere near what I was feeling. SO my question is.. is this normal? Is this something I should talk to a doctor about it? Thanks for your help.

Answer:
If you are depressed for no reason that is a problem.
You MIGHT be bipolar, b/c so far you've said:
1. You're moody.
2. Depressed one moment than happy the next.
Whatever the case, I hope you were honest about the suicidal part and don't become that way. Just don't. Even though it might be the best thing for your happiness, others will suffer your loss.
With that said, really take everything into reality. Your mind is a machine, it will follow a set pattern. You can trick yourself into being happy. What I'd do if I were in your shoes is plug in my iPod or something, put on a nice cheery ditty on, and let myself fall asleep to it. If you do that for whatever reason, just be sure to keep the volume low so you don't damage your ears, b/c the 8 hrs or so can really hurt your ears.
If you REALLY absolutely have to, and don't think you can do this alone, go to a doctor. But, that IS pretty pathetic if you need someone to help you with your problem. Sorry if you're offended by that, but its true, b/c you don't need help.
That has happened to me before actually. At night your brain is tired and you tend to be a lot more emotional/easily swayed. As for going to see a doctor about it, that's up to you. If you think it's a real problem and that your depression is dangerous to your health and/or affecting other parts of your life, then maybe so. If it makes you feel any better, I've felt hopeless and not wanting to be here anymore. But you get through it and you grind. Perhaps you need to do something at night that occupies your attention fully... maybe reading.
I wouldn't ignore it! You could possibly look back in your history to see if there is something that has bothered you and you suppressed it.
Since my oldest son was born, 9 years ago, my childhood has surfaced, and all the memories of how I was treated by my parents came up. Over the years things seemed to get worse . I went through crying 'fits' and became very angry. I was taking anti-depressant meds and it didn't seem to fix me.
What did fix how I was, was fixing the problem that long lived so deep inside of me. Old problems that are not thought about today, can still be in the back of your mind.
This is the only thing I can think about, since it happened to me. I hope it helps, and I hope you don't ignore the signs that you are seeing. Because they are important!
Take care of yourself on the inside, and outside!
If you need to email me, please do! I wouldn't mind listening if I could be of any help to you at all!!
