I'm always scared at night, whats wrong?

Okay every night when i go to bed, i get so scared. I start hearing sounds, and noises, and hear footsteps. I get up every night and wonder through the house, and no one is up, and no one or anything is moving in the house. But during the day im perfectly normal and care-free. why am i so scared at night? could i have something wrong with me? Oh and by the way, this happens every night.

Answer:
Try turning on all the lights in your room/hallway and play some pleasant music before you go to sleep. Avoid watching horror movies because they only feed your mind with more scary thoughts. Many people get scared at night because our culture associates nighttime with scary things like murder, rape, crime, burglary, etc. Coax and talk to yourself when you feel scared, just tell yourself it's not rational, you are safe in your home. Put on some headphones to cancel out noises until you fall asleep, and have a nightlight or sleep with the light on if need be. If you can't, then leave all your lighhts on until you are really tired enough to fall asleep right away. Lots of people have this, don't feel bad!
put a radio beside your bed and leave it on low enough that it is soothing but loud enough to mask the sounds of any other noises...
You sound a little paranoid. I get the same way when I'm really tired and stressed out.
you are paranoid, you have an over active imagination, or you cannot say that you have an actual phobia, because if you did you wouldn't be able to function at all in the dark. I mean AT ALL!! the fact that you can talk about it shows that you aren't really scared of the dark. you are scared of what might be in the darkness. Get a night light, so you can see that there's nothing there. then eventually your mind will convince you taht you dont need it anymore
sounds like a panic attack to me...
did something happen to you at night when you were little? a traumatic event? this could be triggering your fear. I fyou aren't already, I would start seeing a therapist, she or he can help you get through this.

best of luck.
maybe you have extra energy when you go to sleep at night. don't eat, drink, or do strenuous exercise immediately before going to sleep. the important thing is to go to sleep, just close your eyes and relax.

try turning the lights on and getting one of those radios that play soothing sounds.

or, to get your mind off things, read a book until you fall asleep. buy earplugs or noise-canceling headphones so you won't hear anything. remember this is all in your head, so you can rationalize it away.
it could be something thats bothering u! are u afraid of something?? u might need to talk to ur parents maybe they can help!! believe it or not i think most people have that felling that something is watching them! it might just be a cyclical problem!! well i hope that this well help u!
its ok. i get that way when i dream about squids. giant ones. well i have a cat and i get her and lay her on my bed and then she starts purring. that blocks out most of the sound and it calms me down. get a cat. but a sweet and well trained cat... not the kind that craps everywhere and scratches you up. and make sure he/she purrs. there cute and they calm my craziness!
i get this way to at night everysince i was little i'm 22 now. i'm married now so you would think that it would go away but it is not as bad as it use to be. i don't know why or what will help. for me i have to be covered up that for somereason eases my fears. i hold my dog or my husband to feel like i'm not alone. but a radio would be good to so that it can mask out the noises you hear. basically the noises you here are just normal night noises but your mind tells you they might be something else like footsteps and stuff. you should ask your parents to put a tv in your room. i used to fall asleep with the tv on and that helped. if you need to to feel safe put a knife next to your bed so you can have a sense of protection but mostly just get a big dog like a pit or german sheperd or any other large breeds this will make you feel safe because if a stranger came near your room that dog would protect with his life. not saying that anyone will just saying for your sense of safety so you can just feel safe and you will be.
i felt the almost the same way as you did since i was a little girl too. i used to hide myself in the blanket, turn on all the lights during the night and if i don't have school the next day i would stay awake until the sun comes up then go sleep. i used to have nightmares 4-6 days a week, maybe 1-2 nightmares a night,

i met a friend of my mom at age 24, she pointed out all my fears at first sight, she told me to read sutra for 2-3 hours a day, after 2-3 weeks, it was significantly improved. no more nightmares about demon or ghosts, once in a while i still feel as if someone is watching me but i am not afraid anymore, if you are a christian, read bible 2-3 hours a day, make sure you try your best to concentrate on each word you are reading, don't think about anything else, don't even try to interprete the meaning behind what you are reading, just read. it will clear and relax your mind, it takes practice and can be hard at first. you can start by 1 hour in the morning and 1 hour at night.
