Are mental health problems such as depression on the increase?

can anyone provide me with any statistics please?

Answer:
It would be hard not to believe that it is on the increase. The population of the world is increasing and also our understanding and diagnosis of such disorders is clearer and not so stigmatised today. Years ago it was considered cowardly of men to admit to depressive illness and women were considered hysterical. So our awareness of the illness has certainly increased and in our industrialised nations I do think the stress factors of everyday life has increased incidence of depression.

Hope this helps you.

Regards,

Lisa

modern society has increased the depression rate in the uk since the mid nineties.we are now over -working,longer hours.less family time, less time spent on our selves.it is no wonder people are turning to drink just to release themselves from everyday pressures.we all want but is it really worth killing yourselves just for all this pressure.
Currently 67% of th UK population suffer with some form of depression.
In 1972 it was only 35%.

89% of the population of the world, have, or will, suffer from some form of depression.
