Why do people become therapists or psychologists?
Answer:
Most of the people I have encountered in these professions were drawn to them because of a sincere interest in the subject of mental health. There are always exceptions to every rule and there are people who have chosen the profession thinking that it might be a good way to make money. This is true of people in almost any profession. I think it would be excellent if everyone in this profession had chosen it due to a personal experience. It might make everyone more empathetic with patients and allow them personal insight into behaviors.
it goes about 50-50 some do it to help them with a personal experience and others do it so that they can help people and the other half usually for the money
I'm no psychologist or therapist, even though I went to college and got my b.a. in Psychology. People have many reasons to take up the field. In my current job as a residential counselor I find some people have no choice but to take up the job, others do have the family experience, others find it interesting.
Every answer you'll get will be highly subjective, you may want to take into account everyone is different and will have their own reasons in becoming a part of the mental health field.
i chose therapy partly to help other people and partly to understand myself
