Pleae Help. Should I chief surrounded by Social Work?

I am not really wanting to be a social worker pursue. I am not interested with working near child protective services or for the government. I am more interested within counseling or giving patients therapy for mental strength problems. I really want to help others who own mental ill nesses because I hold suffered it throughout my life. I hold to do this ... Its my passion. I own to do something I relate to. I was going to win my degree surrounded by psychology and go on to grad conservatory to get my masters surrounded by counseling but have be told I can get my B.S.W and still do counseling and grasp my M.S.W and do counseling or get my license surrounded by clinical counseling. I want to more or less work w/ individuals. .. but am not constrained to working in groups. I only just want to help others beside mental illness similar to I said. I love talking to others. I thought that getting my m.s.w would be more benefitial than getting my masters within clinical counseling.. I guess I can somehow do that with a m.s.w or can that organize into it??


Answers:    There are many degree that can lead to a clinical license - but they are adjectives at the grad level. The four principal degrees and license (each state is different).

MSW - can lead to a clinical license surrounded by all 50 states
MA contained by Psych, educational psych, etc. - provided the level programs prepares you for a license - can lead to a Licensed professional counselor (LPC) or marriage ceremony and family psychoanalysis (MFT) not every state has this
MA contained by counseling - can lead to LPC or MFT again not within every state
MA in MFT - lead to an MFT license.

In most cases you can get into these programs near any number of BA degrees smoothly - and in veracity almost any BA could lead to it near additional experience or course work. The most adjectives would include:
Psych,
Social Work
Sociology
Education
Human Dev, (eg. Child, family etc.)
Criminal even-handedness
Human services
Interdisciplinary

The advantage of the BSW is that it is more practice base, it gets you into the profession and give you a chance to see if this really fits for you and allows you to apply advanced standing for your MSW.

All I am competent to say is that if you are competent to major contained by something that you love, by all routine do it. I'm not sure about which point will lead you to the art that you want but as long as you pursue your passion you are on the right track. I'm majoring within a field I love right immediately and it's great. I love going to school and I'm looking forward to seeing where on earth the degree will nick me. I know I made the right decision to walk with what feel best.
