Cymbalta withdrawal?

Has anyone ever just cold turkey stopped taking their cymbalta? My husband did and had become very sick. He thinks it is chicken he ate but I think its his stopped taking the medication. Any experience with this anyone?

Answer:
Oh gosh-- don't quit those drugs cold turkey! You'll feel sick in so many ways-- diarrhea, racing heart, nausea, weakness, dizziness, panic, anxiety-- and lots of other symptoms.
He needs to taper off very slowly, like cutting down by 5mg every few weeks.
Even for me to get off 20mg of Paxil, I had to cut down by 5mg each month. It took me 4 months until I took my last pill, and like another 2 years to feel normal.
I have never had experience with Cymbalta specifically, but I do know that anytime you take a medication for a long enough period of time to have it build up in your system, that you will go through "withdrawals" that are mixed and varied depending on the drug. By suggestion is to get back on the medication immediately and see a doctor or go to the ER for a dose of the drug. Good luck to both you and your husband.
Going off of any SSRI or similar antidepressant without properly tapering can cause severe withrawl symptoms, namely, nausea and dizziness. Some people report experiencing balance problems, flu-like symptoms, hallucinations, blurred vision, irritability, tingling sensations, vivid dreams, and melancholy. Even when a patient is properly tapering off the drugs, he or she can still experience some of these side effects.

That being said, it's not safe to go off of an antidepressant "cold turkey". The safest thing to do is to get a tapering schedule from a psychiatrist. It may take several months to completely go off of the drug. I would recommend your husband begin taking cymbalta as usual, call a doctor asap, get a tapering schedule, and then begin slowly going off the medication. Hope this helps!
