Is lamictal...?

is lamictal the only medicine to treat bipolar that also treats epilepsy? does anyone know what bipolar medicines also treat? like are there any bipolar meds other than lamictal that also treat something else and what else can they possibly treat?
thanks

Answer:
Many of the medications that are used for bipolar are anti-convulsants used in epilepsy/seizures. Tegretol, trileptal, depakote are all examples. There is a theory that some bp symptoms are like psychiatric "mini-seizures" in the brain, and that is why anti-convulsants may work - but no one is certain.
Depakote is also a medication that is used for epilepsy and bipolar disorder. It is also used to treat chronic pain.
yes i take lamictal
