Is anyone here on Fluoxetine??? Has it worked for you???
i have only been taking it for a day and i feel a bit weird, im guessing i'm probably conciously reacting to the medication.
I'm just wondering has fluoxetine worked for anyone???
Answer:
It worked great for me.
People who become suicidal or worsen on these types of meds sometimes have bipolar disorder, and it hasn't been diagnosed. Bipolar disorder has depression as one of its characteristics, so sometimes a person gets Prozac or another SSRI, and it causes them to become manic.
I am so so so glad that you will be seen by a psychiatrist! Excellent! Be sure that if you have weird symptoms like hallucinating, feeling rage, etc. that you tell him or her, okay? My son had these problems and tried to hide them from us until he was in a very, very bad state of mind.
By the way, I am so glad you saw someone about your depression and didn't just worry. I hope you will see a therapist too?
Fluoxetine is generic Prozac.
I took it, but I had a really bad reaction. I also felt very strange after the first couple of days. They say it's supposed to take a few weeks, but I don't believe that's true. I got overly anxious, impulsive, wicked insomnia, insane sex drive, I felt far away like I was on another planet, I yelled when I talked and made a lot of nonsensical yet cruel jokes. I was very hyperactive and people often thought I was taking drugs, I wasn't except for the meds. I felt extremely happy and euphoric, but at the same time just as, if not more depressed. I remember one night laughing hysterically and then crying back and forth for a good hour!. I told my doctor this and he upped my dosage. After about 6 months, I tried to kill myself and quit 'cold turkey'. I never saw my psychiatrist again. I decided being depressed was better than being depressed and on antidepressants!
That's what could happen, for most people it either does nothing or helps them feel better.
been on it about a year
finished ages ago
fine now
yes, you do feel funny for a bit, it is an SSSI
takes about 3 weeks to work, after a day it is just the thought of it
keep taking at the correct time, you will soon be off it for good
Take a look at my story on Yahoo search under "The Last Temptation of George Petrie". Fluoxetine (Prozac) brought me back from the precipice of death. I had refused to take any medication for my depression and lost everything I had due to my stubborn nature. Now I am stronger and happier than I have ever been in my life. Remember it takes time for a therapeutic dose of this drug to reach appropriate levels. Be prepared to give this medication several weeks before you experience any real results. Tell your physician about any concerns you have and make sure you are open and honest about how you are feeling. best wishes
It takes awhile for it to work I had some mild side effects for about 2 weeks before it kicked in. However I quit taking it because for me I did not like how it made me have no emotions at all so now I am on Wellbutrin. My husband takes Fluoxetine and has been for a year now and it works perfect for him. Sometimes you have to try different meds to see which one works best for you.
I am not but both my husband and my dad have been on it and it destroyed them my husband turned suicidal and suspicious and as for my dad he is destroyed scared to go outside and weak and feable.
I would avoid it at all costs but everyone is different
hi there how are u my names spiderman, i have been on fluoxetine for about 12 months and i no that sounds a long time and it is. I could go into my depression and bore u with details but the truth is they work . For the first 1 to 2 weeks they can make u feel a little wierd but this is norm with in too weeks u will certainly feel a whole lot better with in your self good luck with your illness keep smilin x
Been there! A day's not long enough to mean anything.Read the instruction leaflet about side effects in case you get a reaction, but as an anti-d, it won't really cut in till you've been on it for about two weeks.
You may get a "happy" mood swing at first, but it wears off in the first month.
Check back with your GP regularly-say every three months. If you can, try not to be on it for more than a year.
Personally, I found it flattened things out-I didn't get low, but couldn't feel excited about anything either. If it helps you get your life back on track, I reckon thats an acceptable price in the short term. Good luck!
I was on it a few years ago. It didn't help my depression, but I didn't have any side affects from it. It will take your body a few weeks to adjust to it, so keep going and see what happens.
fluoxetine worked for me within 10 days i began to feel better.i hadnt realised how low i had become. i stayed on it for two months, but my sex drive disappeared so i had to change to another antidepressant.the other one was fine. iam now well again.
Hi there,
i was put on it recently, for the first two weeks i was tired, dizzy and felt nauseuas at times and experienced headaches, these are the most common symptoms, as it takes a while for yoru body to adjust to them so dont worry too much.
i was only on them 7 weeks when the doctor decided to wean me back off them as i didnt feel any different so i am currently off them. i am not sure if she actually took me off them too quick though and thats why they didnt work but they are very successful for a lot of people. i see a counsellor, my gp and am seeing a psychiatrist for the first time next week.
As my doctor said, they are not "happy pills" they do not make you a bubbly outgoing happy person, but just bring you back to some level of normality where you can thiink abit more clearly and this is why mental help through counselling etc is usually offered along side the drug!
everyone is different but i hope it works for you! fluoxetine (also known as prozac) is one of the most commonly gievn drugs for depression and eating disorders as sometimes they link and the drug can surpress appetite abit so is given in high doses to bulimics!
hope this information helps a bit, good luck!

don't be put off by others which have not agreed with them, fluoxetine is like any other meds, can effect people in dif ways, i was on another b4 these and they made me suicidal, but fluoxetine lifted my moods, don't get me wrong they are not a miracle, and still have odd bad day but at least i can see life is good now, not like b4 were i didn want to be here.
Give em couple weeks, ask someone u trust to monitor u, after 2 weeks if no better go back.
They saved my life.
no it didnt work for me, i felt really bad on it. ive found cymbalta a much better medication to take for depression.
