Have you experienced bad dreams with being on effexor or any other anti-depressant?

I have the CREEPIEST dreams ever while being on Effexor 75mg. I have been on this dose for about 3 years and have really loopy dreams like the same thing happens over and over again. It's disturbing. Has anyone else experienced this? I think it's a side effect of being on anti-depressants.

Answer:
I'm on Effexor XR total of 225mg per day, for 6 years now. Yes, I do have WEIRD DREAMS! They are sometimes creepy, and make me hallucinate, but I figure, better I learn to deal with these dreams, then live with what happens without the meds. I have been on 10 different antidepressants over the past 8 years, and this is the only one that works for me. Needless to say, I have learned to tolerate the dreams, and no longer hallucinate from them, because I recognize what is happening.

Good Luck

I've been on Effexor and Prozac. I've not experienced any creepy dreams/
my mom is on that and has been on anti depressants for 14 years and she has never mentioned anything about weird dreams. It could be the meds or maybe it is just the way you dream.
No, that doesn't sound normal. You might need to get off that and try somehting else.
I don't know anything about anti-depressants but I do get terrible nightmares when I take any medication that helps me sleep either prescribed or over the counter. It has to be something related to relaxing you.
I couldn't handle Effexor...made me jittery. I've been on Wellbutrin, Prozac and Pamelor at different times, and I don't remember my dreams at all except maybe 2 or 3 times a year.

If it's really disturbing to you, maybe you could switch to something else. There's like a skillion drugs out now.
yes Ihave been on effexor alot and it gives me nightmares and really weird dreams. One time it made me hallucinate and that was scary.
Yes. I've had to switch meds before because of this. I've also hallucinated while on one anti depressant. I haven't been on effexor, but someone else I know is and has the same thing.
Is it something your able to deal with? Talk to your doctor about it. They may have some advice for you.
I've heard first-hand accounts of nightmares from two patients on Effexor, and they both claim that the dreams began when the medication treatment began. I haven't heard this from patients on other antidepressants. So it wouldn't surprise me if this is a rare side effect of Effexor.
yup, yup. between all the meds i'm on (and there's alot) i've been having dreams only someone on crack would understand, because i certainly don't. theyr'e like something out of willy wonka, alice in wonderland, and saw.

lately, i've been having frequent trips to the restroom during the night, spawning my newest batch of wierdo wonders:

toilet dreams..i think i might wright a book about them. lol
