What is the common concept of bipolarity/manic depressiveness?
Answer:
people generaly believe that bipolar are emotional wrecks and are to moody to be around- sadly alot of bipolar people believe the same thing about themself half the time without the treatment.
Unfortunately, not good. Although bipolar disorder is completely manageable with the proper medications, it tends to scare people who know little about it other than the worst that can happen. But much like certain other disorders such as autism, those diagnosed are more often than not found to be gifted more so than the average person. Especially in the area of the arts. It has been said by some professionals in the medical field that many of our famous artists and musicians in history would likely have been diagnosed as having been bipolar had they known then what we know now.

You know, this q'n really got me thinking. There's something i'd like to add. i said this disorder is completely manageable with the proper meds. i think though that one of the reasons people are so uncomfortable around anyone having been diagnosed as being bipolar is that the latter doesn't keep a handle on it by following his/her doctor's advice and staying on the prescribed medications. This usually has a "kick-back" effect because the emotional roller-coaster comes back with a vengeance, the person often ends up in the hospital ( possibly after attempted suicide or doing something completely outrageous and insane), then when released after being stabilized and returned to a regular drug regimen, he/she feels "normal" again. And what does this person often do? Discontinues taking the prescribed medication...and the cycle continues.
Perhaps more info than you were seeking, but it's my 2-cents' worth.
Wow, I could go on forever answering this question! The only reason there is a stigma attached to someone being bipolar (aka manic depressive) is ignorance. Lack of knowledge.....I don't know that I have ever hear of a popular image attached to being manic depressive. I am not proud, nor am I ashamed to say I am bipolar...
As a person with bipolar and depression, it's really hard to explain. Bipolar is literally happy one second, sad the next. It's intensive mood swings that usually bring on an episode. And I'm guessing I don't need to tell you what depression is, but manic depression is just depression, only more severe. Hope I was any help.
That they continuously swing from mania to depression back to mania. In reality one type of episode usually predominates. Some have more depressives episodes and some have more mania. Also, people usually aren't ill all the time. Most people with bipolar disorder have long periods of normal mood and behavior between episodes.
