Fear of homesickness, what shall I do?

Im 23, and I always wanted to study abroad. Now I have this great opportunity to study in Canada, in a high ranked university, full fund and I already have my visa and ticket ready, its just this fear of homesickness.
I feel like i can't leave the family and my divorced mother would die of loneliness. I know I can bear the loneliness and get used to it quickly, I'm just too worried about my mom. What should I do?

p.s.I probably won't be able to come back atleast for a year and my mom visiting me would cost alot for us.

Answer:
i know it would be hard for her but think about this - would she want you to miss this fully funded great opportunity for your future?
i know this may sound cliche but why not get her a pet. they are the best thing for someone who lives alone and there are tons that need to be adopted. older (around age 3) adopted pet are the best ones you can get because they will appreciate there masters more then a brand new puppy or kitten will.

good luck - i hope you really think about it - i wish i had gotten an opportunity like that when i was in college.
