Hypomania:::is it only in relation to ups and lots of energy?

is this condition also possible with people who are at a 'normal' level of energy, then bouts of big depression? as opposed to 'hyper' feelings. or i'll read about hypermania people who are very productive at times to some extremes. i tend not to be productive as a whole. i've been told by my psychiatrist i am bipolar II/hypomania. i at least have symptoms. or i'll read how bipolar/hypomania people can sometimes be super successful. this doesnt seem to relate to me at all. pls explain more ab this condition. thanks.

Think of it in terms of
"Normal"= baseline- the average amount of energy that most poeple have
Mania= the extremely high energy phase of bipolar, in which the excess energy is a burst of unrealistic energy and its expectations. It's accompanied by delusions (false, fixed, beliefs) and risky behaviour.
Hypomania is somewhere in between- not quite as crazy, but generally hypomanic paople are highly driven and tend to be successful because they can compensate by channelling all that energy into productive pursuits. These are the businessmen who work 16-hour days and play golf and sit on boards etc.
So if you are hypomanic, you have a lot of energy. But if you aren't super successful, you haven't learned how to focus it. Maybe you are more scattered and start to many things without finishing. Polish that up and you could be the next billionaire!
Usually hypomanics are not subject to the huge and deep swings of depression, or else not as often or as deep as true bipolar patients. But noone is exactly a textbook case.
