Can somebody explain what bipolar depression is?
Answer:
A diagnosis of bipolar is an indication of an illness that is expressed by severe mood swings and behavior. The possible cause is a chemical imbalance (lack of serotonin in some instances) or physical inability of neurotransmitters and uptake receptors. The result can be seen as behavior that swings from suicidal depression to hyperactivity and flight of ideas. The current medications are anti-depressants and/or lithium. While there are side effects form some of the meds, there have also been excellent results in modifying the extremes of behavior.
It's the depressive phase of bipolar disorder.
Basically, people with bipolar disorder have episodes of being really really high (mania) and really really low (depression) with periods of stability (neither depressed nor manic and seemingly 'normal'). These episodes last at the very least days and sometimes even years. It is not like the teenage hormonal swings happening from minute to minute that popular culture makes it out to be. If someone is literally depressed one minute and flying the next, it's unlikely this person is bipolar.
It was called Manic-Depression.
Its when you go from feeling "High" to
a low Depression, for no apparent reason.
