What can you do during a fierce thunderstorm?
Answer:
light a candle and try to read a paper and ink book
make up stories to tell on line
or questions to ask in answers
scrub all the dishes by candlelight
go to bed and get a decent night's sleep for once
well, obviously light some candles. you caaan take a candle lit bath and then you won't even notice when the lights go out...added bonus, if the storm turns fierce, the bathroom is the safest place to be! :)
We're having thunder right now in London, England with Caribbean-style rainfall (a brief but very fierce shower). Typical British rain is slow and relentless - sometimes lasting all day
Shut off any major appliances that were running when the power went off [but NOT the fridge--stuff like clothes-dryers, washing-machines!] and stay away from the windows. Keep flashlights in various locations in the house so you won't have to hunt too long to grab one. Keep a battery-operated radio handy so you can listen for weather alerts, etc., or warnings about flash-floods etc. Hint based on personal experience: if you have dial-up internet, unplug the phone connection at the wall...I fried a modem when a lightning strike hit a tree by our porch and the flash zapped up the phonelines.
Even tho it's fun, don't go outside and go wading...sometimes there are power lines down and harmful things floating around...you could get hurt by wandering electrical currents or cut up pretty bad by floating debris. Keep your pets indoors too.
Keep plenty of candles and aquire a taste for reading. Keep a cooler handy and plenty of ice in the freezer. Use you cell phone as your alarm clock or get the wind up type. Get used to bathing in cold water or get a camping style solar water heater. Hope this is what you were looking for Good Luck!
