If you know someone that is bi polar and has spent time in the mental hospital already .?
Answer:
I used to work in a mental hospital for 15 years. It really depends on where you are as far as the laws that govern involuntary commitment. In Illinois (US), the person must be a threat to themself, another person or unable to care for their own needs. I would call a crisis hotline in your area and they can probably help you figure out what the best course of action is. Unfortunately, sometimes you have to wait until they get very sick to get them back in for more treatment. Hope this helps. Susan
have her Baker Acted if you have that in Can
if someone is truly mentally ill, then they would not be able to turn it on and off for her questioners. Is it possiblke that she is saying things to you to gain attention? In Florida, someone that is a harm to themselves or others can be involuntarilly commited for 3 days for observation to determine what is going on
Contact her therapist and report what she has been saying. The therapist cannot legally tell you anything (privacy laws) but can LISTEN to what you are saying and decided if it's valid information.
Try also contacting a family member who may be inclined ot listen.
Also try and convince the person to get some help.
Good luck.
Call 911 they will take her there, once there the doctors will take over they can have her admited agaist her will if they feel there is a problem. She could then get a lawyer if she does not want to stay.
If she is an adult, the only way she can be taken to the hospital is if she is shown to be a true danger to herself an others. If she attacks someone, cuts herself, etc. Otherwise, there is nothing you can do.
If she IS a minor, her parents can commit her.
I do not know Canadian Law, but in the US and individual can be committed without their consent only with the agreement and signature of a Judge. You have to submit information ensuring the counsel that the person is capable of causing harms to others or to themselves. You may want to contact your local governmental official and ask if the have a local chapter of a mental health authority.
