Is 12 years old to young for sleeping pills?
I think that's the reason I have circles under my eyes.
What can I do to sleep?
Answer:
Sleeping Pills really aren't good for anybody.
Reading before sleep can actually make you wake up more because your mind isn't winding down. Make sure that you are waking up and going to bed around the same time every day (even weekends, although I know that's harder) and your body will develop a bit of a schedule. A half hour to an hour before bed, don't watch tv or anything that's going to keep your mind awake. Take a warm bath to relax or something. When it's time for bed, turn out the lights, lay down, and try to think of something that isn't exciting or stressful.
I have had issues with sleeping since I was young too, but it just takes consistency and telling yourself "I can sleep" rather than "I can't sleep". Good luck!
Sounds like a case of insomnia. How long has this been going on? Personally, I would say 12 is a bit young for sleeping pills, besides they can be addictive, I don't take mine even though my doctor prescribed me them, haven't gotten the prescription filled. Usually insomnia will fix itself in a few days, try doing something really active during the day to tire you out and see how that works.
If you are just sitting around all day, you may stay awake at night. Don't read before bed. Your mind won't shut off because you will think about the story.
Getting enough exercise and being active will make you tired. Don't eat before bed either.
Sleeping aids are for adults only. Not for a 12 yr old. You may be able to take a Benedryl to help for a few days to get into a sleeping pattern again. But do it ONLY under your parents supervision.
you need to see a doctor there are many sleeping disorders out there, that are for people your age. really tell your mom whats going on and ask to go to the doctor, maybe sleeping isn't the answer but some type of meds may be good luck
I also think that 12 is young for sleeping pills. I have suffered with insomnia for sometime now. There are things that you can do to help you fall asleep faster. Getting more exercises during the day. Eating right, stay away from caffeine, especially late in the day. Have a consistent bed time routine and try to get to bed and wake up at the same time everyday. Even weekends. Sleep in a cool dark room, and wear socks to bed, as strange as that may sound, it really does help. If you need to, as a last resort, and with your mother's approval, you can take benedryl before bed, to help you get some sleep. But i would only use that as a last resort, and like I said, with your mother's approval. Hope this helps.
Maybe you're worried about something: tests, boys, acne, getting pregnant. That's enough to keep anyone up at night! Just don't think you're alone in this, nor that medication is the answer to any of your problems. Try and figure out what it is you want to do with your life and start to focus on your goals, or at least exploring your options. Try something new you've always wanted to try but were too scared. At least you're reading books, which is more than I can say about most women. Don't lose the dream when the boys start to nose around. Just have fun with them, and when you're finishing school and getting ready to settle down, that's when you can worry about having a serious boyfriend. Until then: focus on goals, have fun.
yes I agree with you Mum. Have you tried drinking warm milk before going to bed. It quite often helps to make you sleepy.
