Anyone ever been prescribed Lithium Carbonate and/or Seroquel?

I take 300mg of Lithium 3 times a day, and one 50mg dose of seroquel before bedtime, anyone ever had and severe side effects from either one of these? Ex; anger outbursts, severe depression

Answer:
Bipolar disorder itself can easily cause anger outbursts. Antidpressants can jack you up and make it worse. I personally have rage attacks when i take benadryl (allergy med), ativan (a benzo, like xanax or valium) or risperdal, also maybe sudafed or nyquil. When I was coming OFF seroquel, I seemed to have some of these issues, hard to tell because I am female and when I get PMS the bipolar gets worse, and when it's overcast a few days, and in the fall. . . so many variables!!

I don't think lithium is likely to be the culprit if it is the drugs causing the problem. I think this drug is prescribed for people who have trouble controlling their temper (as well as mostly for bipolar) For me, the side effects of lithium are constantly being thirsty, restless legs, hand tremor, upset stomach and then having to go to the bathroom all the time because I drink so much fluid. Oh, I also overheat easily. But what I have done is take lamictal at 125 mg/day, which I think is on the lower end of the dosage, then add 600mg a day of lithium, a level of meds I can handle (barely.) That combo is really helping, and I found nothing else for 15 years. Also, seroquel will knock you out for a couple weeks before you get sorta used to that, a family friend started on it a few months ago for depression and he told me that.

Good luck! This is really something you should call your psychiatrist about. Maybe he'/she can fit you into the schedule in a few days or talk to you on the phone. They can't leave you floundering.
it will really help
i take litium and used to take seroquel. check the search engine for side effects
My mother took seroquel and had muscle rigidity, irregular blood pressure and I think it lead to her renal failure eventually. She was elderly but we were never told that it shouldn't be given to older patients. Please look up the side effects and talk to your doctor about these medications. You can also call a pharmacist where you get your prescriptions for information. Sometimes they have more updated info than the Doc because the Doc is just too busy to keep up.
No I have not taken these meds, but know that they treat bipolar disorder, always tell your doctor about your side effects.
Have you had a Lithium Blood level drawn recently? Your Lithium level may be too low and require an increase.

Seroquel tends to make many people drowsy but some people can develop a tolerance to Seroquel at low doses. Seroquel helps me sleep when my mind won't settle down.

I started out at the same Lithium dose but my blood level was 0.27 and I was accused of not taking medicine. Yes, I continued to have anger outbursts and severe depression on Lithium alone. Once I dropped the antidepressants and increased the Lithium dose to 1200 mg - the anger outbursts declined, the severe depression would lift and I felt OK again. After two more upward adjustments in Lithium dosage, I rarely have anger outbursts - very rare instances of brief depression and my Lithium levels are in the normal range.

Talk to your psychiatrist at your next appointment or sooner and talk about medication adjustments. If there is stress in your life which is causing anger outbursts and severe depression, the time has come to manage those situations better.
50mg of seroquel at bed helps with sleep. But if it is supposed to help depression or regulate moods then you will need to be on the standard 300mg to be effective. Also 300 mg lithium is starter dose. My guess is that if you are having anger outburts and severe depression then you are likely going to be going up on higher doses of your medication which would not be surprising because you are not at standard dose yet. My guess is that you are bipolar. Sometimes lamictal is added in with seroquel and lithium as lamictal has fairly good antidepressant affect. If you have a good doctor just keep in touch and don't worry; it takes soooo long to get the right doseage combination but when you do you will feel so much better and you will just get on with your life.
