How to keep a healthy self esteem while becoming thick-skinned?

Thickskinned=not bothered by insults, name calling and slander(that isn't true)

do things for yourself. make a good meal if you can cook or ask mom to make your favorite dinner. paint your nails a pretty color and have a bubble bath. make yourself beautiful. keep your confidence high and no one can put you down. good luck. stay strong.
i think no matter how thick skinned you are it will always hurt a little to bit insulted. but the point is that you don't let anyone see that it hurts you and you are able to bounce back from it and not let it bother you for an extended period of time. just keep a calm, cool, collected face at all times and when teh insult is through simply walk away with out a word. know that you are being the better person by not getting into it with this other person and that they are only getting into it with you because they aren't truly confident in themselves. use that to build your self esteem and let go of insults. it takes some work to achieve this state of mind but you can do it. i had to do this because all through out middle school/high school people were very nasty to me for absolutely no reason other than they saw me as different, a nonconformist and that somehow made them feel threatened. by proud that you are not part of the herd. on those times when you feel like you've really been upset make sure they don't see that you're hurt and go vent when you are alone or with someone you trust. its best to occupy yourself with something to take your mind of it and makes you happy at that point too. maybe listen to some inspirational music? whatever you like...
