It is because lap tops actually generate rather a lot of heat. For sperm to be produced, the testes need to be cool. So heat from the lap top can reduce the amount of sperm produced.
Sperm production should return to normal as soon as the heat source is no longer in contact with the testes.

Recent studies have shown that you should NEVER use a laptop on your lap, always on a desk because any part of your body it touches, can get cancer from it.
i believe that this is just a myth. the reason why they say this is b/c laptops give off heat. and a lap top lays right about the area of your testicles. The heat supposedly kills your sperm. if it does it will not be permanent. it will be fine.
That's a good question. The heat from the laptop could, in theory, kill sperm temporarily. Not permenantly. Same applies to warm baths, tight jeans or underwear. Constriction and heat will kill the little critters in the short term (some, not all...it is by no means a reliable form of birth control). I don't think any studies have been conducted on the long term effects of using a laptop for men, but it is safe to assume that it will hinder the sperm that are produced provided the heat is enough to put them down.
