Hernia surgery?

i had hernia surgery about a year and a half ago and there is still a knot where he did surgery and it still hurts at times. the emergency room people tell me to go see the dr. who did operation and he tells me everythings fine. but is there suppose to be a knot and should it still hurt. I get pain pill off my mom to kill pain but it only works temporarly. can some one please help

Answer:
Number one DO NOT TAKE ANYONE ELSE"S MEDICATION.

Number two. No it should not still be causing you pain but the not feeling of the knot thing you can feel is because they literally tie a knot around the hernia with skin from surrounding tissues.
I assume you got a hiatus hernia repaired.
It sounds as if it's been done a little too tightly which is a rarity as if it is a hernia repair they place a tube a certain thickness down your throat and wrap around that.
If he is still saying everything is fine then go and get a second opipion(sp) from another surgeon. Not an ER Doctor.

You really need to go back to the Doctor who performed the surgery and confront him about the feeling of the knot and the pain.

If it was in the groin and he has stuffed up once before I can understand your hesitation of going back for further assistance. I would now say he has stuffed up again. And you do need that second opipion but an ER Doctor will not give you one as they are not specialists in that area and they tend to protect each other's butts and they won't say anything about it "Just in case." So you need to see another surgeon who specialises in that area.
Write to some Doctor's and get on the phone to see if someone can help you without charging you a fortune or anything at all.
It's hard in America where you don't have the privledge as we do here in Australia, to see a Doctor when you need to reguardless of finances.
Go see another Dr your first Dr would not want to admit to making a mistake. You should not be hurting this long after a hernia repair.
Yes, the first answer is right. Go and see another doctor as the first surgeon might have made a mistake and doesn't want to admit.
By the way, it's mostly very hard to proof a doctor's work as a mistake. But when you still have pains you only can live with when taking pills then there MUST be something wrong.
The knot you are talking about might be only the scar which has developed like this.
But the pains should definitely not be there.
My hernia surgery left a knot and sometimes I feel slight discomfort, but not really the type of pain that I would need
medication for, although, mine wasn't in the groin!!
If you had the hernia patched, odds are that the knot you feel, is the "button" that is part of the patch. It is in the center of the mesh and used to secure after everything is placed back where it should be. I am wondering if you built up extreme scar tissue around that button that pulls and would cause some pretty extreme pain. That may be why your doctor is so unconcerned. Since you don't have insurance, I'm guessing that you had your surgery done through your county hospital (as did I ) if you are not getting the answers that you need from your surgeon, which you are due!! Every hospital has a Patients Advocate, they are there for you. Seek the one for your hospital and they will help you get the answers that you need. Especially if surgery was involved, because those docs seem to be so busy that once surgery is done, they don't have time to answer you questions the way that they should.
I wouldn't worry too much, a knot where surgery was done is pretty normal, but you still deserve answers.
