When a person grinds their teeth while sleeping, could this mean they are not sleeping well through the night?
Answer:
It can be a stress issue. Teeth grinding is being tense in your sleep and can cause the teeth to shift and wear down. Take the child to a dentist, they can make a bite plate for the child to wear while sleeping till the child learns to break the habit.
My father used to tell that if you have worms in the stomach, you will grind your teeth while sleeping. Please check up whether your child have worms.
The term for this is bruxism and it is said to be related to stress. Don't know about your 7 year old-quite young to be stressed out unless something is going on with her which you don 't know.
I used to grind my teeth too (I'm 14), but i hardly ever had bad dreams. I think it was because i went to bed too late and couldn't sleep properly. When i went to the dentist I told him that i grind my teeth, he said that he was worried i would be eroding my teeth when I was pushing them together. He said that 2 of my molars were slightly eroded so he gave me this special gum shield (also used in hockey) to protect them at night. However i found it very uncomfortable when i was sleeping and just gave up wearing it. I now think that what was wrong with it was, I should have cut it a bit at the back as the dentist had said.
My point is that I think you should bring your daughter to the dentist to get one of these. Even though they are comfortable it is good to know that she isn't eroding her teeth. She doesn't have to wear it forever either.
Good luck!
