Carded for a bottle of ny-quil?
Answer:
NyQuil is being used for homemade drug manufacturing. Stores are preventing its sale in large quantities and some will card you as a deterrent to keep drug manufacturers from making purchases.
The drugs in Nyquil are being used by drug addicts. They are now typing your driver's license number in the computer and if you buy too much of it, you won't be allowed to purchase it.
In Oregon they do this with most cough medicines because there is such big meth problem here and an ingredient in cold medicines is used to make it. Also most cold and cough medicines contain dxm...and if you take a lot on purpose you can trip..or "robotrip" as it's called. so that may be why
You'll be carded for anything with pseudoephedrine in it, and they only let you buy a limited amount. Funny, I can't find NyQuil with a decongestant in it at all anymore, I'm reduced to store brand. Like I really think I'll sleep better when I can't even breathe!
I worked in a pharmacy for a few years and we went through phases where we would keep all the cough medicine behind the counter or card people. It all depends on the store and the manager if they want to follow the law. I'm not sure what the law exactly is, but it involves not allowing someone to purchase more than 3 bottles of cough medicine. Apparently some of the ingredients are used to make meth? Most cashiers don't take it too seriously and are just forced to ask for ID, but they don't even look at it seriously...
