Hot water bottle for sprain?

is it ok to apply heat (hot water bottle) on an ankle sprain? There is a slight swelling.

Answer:
Use ice for the first 24 hours and then heat after that. The ice constricts the blood vessels and helps reduce the swelling. Heat will make this worse. Also, take some ibuprofin. It will also thin your blood a little to reduce the swelling which it turn will reduce the pain. Lastly, keep the ankle elevated higher than your heart. Stay off of it for a little bit and you should be good.
Ice for a sprain and try and keep your foot raised.

If you don't have ice...a bag of frozen peas or fill the hot water bottle with cold water.

Hope it's better soon
