I have sprained my ankle and need to know how tight to wrap the ace bandage. Help?

Your better bet would be to get an ankle brace that fits on under your shoe. Ice for the first 24 hours, moist heat after that, & stay off of it, even if you do get a brace, for the first 2 days or so. An ace just keeps it warm, it really doesn't keep you from reinjuring it if you walk on it.
you do the figure eight bandagin, start from the distant area, start at the area just below your fingernails then on the area above the heel then so on,
It should be snug, but not so snug that it cuts off your circulation. If your toes go blue, it's too tight. Make sure you're icing it. It helps a lot.
DO NOT wrap the bandage really, really tight. It can cut off your circulation. Wrap it so that it is "snug"..and will give you support..but NOT so tight as to cause swelling (from cutting off your circulation)...if the bandage becomes uncomfortable, or your leg or feet (and toes) swell, feel cold to the touch or discolored...UNWRAP it immediately. You can do more damage with it too tight...so please be careful.
Skip the ACE bandage...it will do nothing for you. If you feel like you need some support for the ankle then you need an ankle brace that limits the inward/outward motion of your ankle. The best thing for you to do is to take care of the ankle using the Rest Ice Compression Elevation (RICE) method. In addition, physical therapy to strengthen the ankle muscles and retrain your balance would help prevent future sprains.
