What causes the body to age?

is it something in the dna which transmits at certain times our bodies must break down? i was under the impression i could prevent certain aging, like using spf lotion. now i see that is not true, because i have used spf since i was 15 every single day and i have a lot of wrinkles. it seems compared the my peer relatives i am only 6 months to one year behind with my facial wrinkles because of the constant application of spf. whoopdeedoo.

Answer:
We age because of our DNA and the way it is programmed. Your DNA determines how often your cells can replicate (reproduce) and how many times they can replicate. Every time your cells reproduce a small part of one of the ends of the DNA is lost. The ends of the DNA strand (known as telomeres) shorten and eventually with enough replications the cell loses the ability to reproduce and then dies without having replaced itself. When this happens enough times with enough cells then you die. Some believe that the rate of cell replication is determined in some part by how many calories one intakes (more calories = faster cell replication) and thus try to lengthen their lives by significantly limiting calories. It is true that external causes can speed up the process of cell death (such as tanning) but the influence varies in different types of cells.
Cell deterioration in the body.
diet and stress.
If we were to stop age we would first have to stop time. Stopping time is not currently possible.

If you are referring to causes to the apperance of age then yes I would say that perhaps there are certain products and surgeries out in the market that promote anti-wrinkling.

Well anyway, I don't see so much of what is wrong with wrinkles. Everyone is bound to have them eventually.
This is a question that must be solved in the 21th century that and dying, if we are to ever expand out into the universe. Age and death must be overcome first.

Interesting thing though, different people age differently, I am 40 and look in my early 20's still. No wrinkles at all but I have a friend that is younger than me he looks way older than me, very wrinkled face.

I never did get much sun at all, that could have something to do with it.
There is a way to stop aging when a certain Gene in the DNA is deactivated. Stopping time is a different story and issue.
Free radicals cause ageing and cancer. With antioxidants you can immobilise some of the free radicals and this could slow down the ageing process and make cancer less likely.

A Yahoo search for antioxidants + foods should tell you which foods are rich in antioxidants.
Stress is the answer. My doctor keeps reminding me. bettyk
