Sleeping trouble??

Answer:
Read a book, play computer games or watch TV until you fall asleep. Or you could clear your head of all the things that are bothering you. Just try not to make it an all nighter, or you'll be dragging the next day.
Do you have a TV in your room? if so I know when I watch TV I get sleep and fall asleep during the show I am watching.Try reading a book in bed I know that puts me to sleep also. Some People say try drinking a glass of warm milk.I have never tried it,I'm not much of a milk drinker.Maybe a warm shower before bed.My Daughter likes to sleep with her Radio on and my son with a fan running for noise.
Good decision on avoiding the sleeping pills, most of them build dependence quite quickly.
My recommendation to someone having such trouble falling asleep is to try to change their sleeping habits gradually until they fit the rhythm of their daily life better.
If you really do need some sort of help getting sleep, I would advise the use of melatonin. Take a much larger dose than the you typically find in over-the counter melatonin preparations, I would advise something in the neighborhood of 25-50mg, or up to 75mg if you are a rather heavy person. Lest I be flamed, this might sound dangerous to take so much of a "sleeping pill", but melatonin is practically non-toxic, and the puny doses usually seen on the market, which range from between three micrograms to ten milligrams, are guaranteed to have no effect at all for anyone with a serious sleeping problem and they might as well be selling snake oil if you seriously tried to use them at the commercially common dosages.
Use melatonin to help you adjust your sleeping patterns in the method described above, it certainly isn't something that can "knock you out", but it will help change your sleep rhythms gradually.
I have Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome (DSPS) and I use melatonin occasionally to try to maintain some semblance of a normal sleeping pattern.
I have also had luck using cannabis for this function, but you're a tad young to consider that.
