Foot and leg pain, achilles tendon area.?
Answer:
It sounds pretty much like you have Achilles tendinitis. The bump is called a pump bump (b/c women who wear high heeled pumps often get this) and is causes by extra bone being laid down at the site where your Achilles tendon attaches to your heel bone. The bump will be permanent unfortunately. The Achilles tendinitis does not have to be though. I would recommend at this point that taking care of this on your own is not the right thing to do. Going to see a physical/physio therapist would be best b/c they can educate you on stretches to do, show you how to properly ice down the area, and use other techniques to decrease the inflammation.
I know exactly what you're going through.. I was diagnosed with achilles tendonitis last Nov after having an ultrasound as well as an X-ray. I started going to a psyiotherapist and she told me I was very lucky because my tendon was close to snapping and if it had I would've needed an op.
Keep off the ankle, elevate your foot on a pillow when in bed and strapp it firmly for at least 2 hrs a day if you have to walk.
By walking on it when it is the painful stage you could actually be damaging the tendon further. So be careful until you see the doctor. Why do you have to wait 2 weeks?
I had multiple tears in the tendon and I wear a firm elastic type of sock with a strap firmly wrapped around my ankle area. This allows me to continue exercising. I can walk but not run yet.
At first I had to have a month off from my gym and I saw the physio 2-3 times a week and the vists were decreased to once a month. I still have an ache after standing a long time but compared to not being able to walk without sharp pain running along my tendon, I've come a long way.
So good luck and i hope you improve quickly
