Neurostimulator Implant Question?
Answer:
Yes I have a stimulator implanted. I have mine for leg pain from Complex Regional Pain Syndrome/Reflex Sympatheic dystrophy in my right leg. I have a rare scarring condition called Keloid scarring which causes ugly looking scars and excess scar tissue, and the excess scar tissue that I have has caused my leads to be picked up and moved off of the nerve so I've had to have 3 revisions to fix this problem. In the last surgery they placed the leads directly in the center of my spine and since it needs to be placed a little more off to the right side because it needs to be stimulating my right (this is because my spinal cord is slightly twisted more than normal), so I do not have full pain relief as of right now, but when everything is placed and programmed right I have 100% pain relief. Right now with the few problems that I have that can't be fixed with programming I have about 60-80% pain relief which is still very good, and I'm able to maintain a fairly normal life. Have you had a trial done? I would suggest having a trial done so that you know if having the implant would be worthwhile for you...basically the trial is having a temporary one put in your spine with the battery power external so you don't have to have the battery implated and the leads are only slipped up through a needle instead of an incisoin (like they are with the implant). I do highly reccomend having the stimulator implatned though because it has been the only thing that has helped my pain...pain meds were useless, blocks only lasted for a week, and other treatments also failed. Good luck...feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions or would like to talk.
