I have a bad armpit irritation.?

This is quite embarassing but I've developed a really bad irritation under one of my armpits. The skin is very sore and red and it stings quite badly. I also shower daily.

Does anyone have any ideas on what it is and what can be done about it?

It cant be my deodrant as my other arm is fine. Its just my right one.

Thanks

Answer:
It could be any number of things, it could be a reaction to ingredients in deodorant, so maybe try using alcohol and aluminium free deodorant, see if this makes a difference. It could be a heat rash, in which case clean the area with a mild soap, dry carefully, then put some cream such as sudocrem on the area, (sudocrem is used for nappyrash) preferably overnight, be careful of your bedsheets!! Then the next morning wash and dry carefully again and apply the least amount of deodorant possible so you feel comfortable. This may need to be repeated a couple of nights. Hope it gets better.
It could be a fungal infection, like ringworm. You can buy some antifungal cream (such as Lamisil) over the counter and apply it to the area a few times a day to see if it gets any better.
Silly as it may seem…use some athletes foot cream on it! It's likely to be a fungal infection. Not abnormal!
Both my armpits were like that recently and I didn't think it was my deodorant either, however, I changed to arm and hammer and the irritation completely went away... try it.
It can still be your deoderant. Just because on is not affected doesn't mean you can rule certain things out. Have you changed laundry detergent lately? Have you changed deoderant lately? Did you just shave? I would try to rule things out. Let it get as much air as possible without any deoderant on it. Wash it with a mild soap and water. If you add more chemicals to it you will probably experience more discomfort
Could you have an ingrown hair that started an infection? I'm going to tell you what I'd do, though you may think it a bit strange. I would go buy a bottle of Peroxyl mouthwash and apply it to that area with cotton make up pads or a wash cloth twice a day. Rinse it off with water after about 5 minutes. Avoid using your deodorant on that armpit again until you are healed. The smell will be minty and not offensive, and the peroxide will help cure infection. Check to see if you have a pimple like structure there, which could be an ingrown hair.

My arm pits got irritated once from using a pair of crutches that did not fit properly.
Could be some allergic reaction to something. Even if your not allergic to your deodorant don't spray any of it on your sore armpit until it has healed as the chemicals in the deodorant could be irritating the sore skin even more. Maybe go and see your Doctor as well.
it is due to Fungal infection use antifungal tablet and cream with consultation of Physician
If I'd have this problem, I would first try to put zink cream on it. (The kind you put n a baby's butt).

If the problem persists I would go and ask a pharmacist for advice.

In the worst case see a doctor.

Good luck!
answer no.1 is spot on kid the cream soothes cools and clears get it first thing hun xx
Athletes Foot (fungal infection) can also be transferred and thrive on the palms, armpits and groin.

Fungal infections are nasty - i hate athletes foot tbh.
It might be the deodorant, even though your right armpit is alright. Best not to use deodorant, because from what I understand, deodorant can cause cancer. You better go and see a doctor about it
Actually it could be your deodorant..

I have the same problem but only under one arm. I can use whatever dedorant under my left arm without much of a problem. The right arm however gets these red raised welts that fill up with puss and well you get the picture its gross.

Lots of time it's because of the aluminum in the deodorant. Tom's Natural and Almay are both brands without that...Mitchium too I think but Almay and Mitchium may just be for women.

Thus I have about three things of deodorant. The only thing you have to watch is that some of the brands without aluminum seem a little less effective sometimes.

Just my 2 cents...
I'm not sure if it's the same type of irritation but I have had persistent irritation in my armpits - it was not due to deoderant. Mine was worsened with sweat - so not sweating helped. But the main thing that has helped it is Milk Thistle. It was kind of accidental that I realized it helped. A friend told me to take it for something else and the rash disappeared. I believe based on what Milk Thistle is recommended for, that what I have could be pustular psoriasis. And I also have some symptoms of psoriaic arthritis. Plus my mother has had psoriasis, although a different kind. Something that also helps skin is Probiotics. Take them on an empty stomach and make sure the kind you buy has several different strains. Also I have noticed that stress will cause mine to flare up. Hope it helps!
