Answers:    I'm assuming you are on these drugs for high blood pressure.

Both drugs own a strong evidence base supporting their use as blood pressure lowering agents and abundant years of wider clinical experience. Recently however, a trial called ASCOT suggested that a blood pressure lowering regimen base on an ACE inhibitor (like enalapril) was more impressive in reducing the risk of some cardiovascular complications long residence (mainly stroke).

ACE inhibitors are the BP lowering treatment of choice in some groups, including diabetics and those at big cardiovascular risk. Beta-blockers still have a role and any patients already on beta-blockers, whos BP is presently well controlled should probably stay on them since BP control is the optimal aspiration.

ACE inhibitors are very resourcefully tolerated drugs. Approximately 10% of patients will develop a troublesome dry cough and around 20% may have a interim reduction within renal function (kidney function) which is often transient and simply requires close monitoring. There is a huge evidence underside supporting the use of ACE inhibitors for BP and other cardiovascular conditions.

I hope this helps.
Atenolol is a beta-blocker and does not own the same renal side effects as Enalapril. However, your Dr. must own had a plea for changing your medication after four years. The risk of renal bomb with Enalapril, (an ACE inhibitor), really is merely to patients who have impair kidney function to begin next to. If your Dr. has not done any blood test to check your kidney function, it is certainly in your rights to ask him to do so, and to regularly monitor your kidney function while on the Enalipril. It's a good theory to let your Dr. know you own these questions so that he can address any concerns you hold and together you can make the right decree for you. I hope that helped for a while bit.
