What is c staph deficiet (deficeal) test? apparently it must be run 3 times on your stool?

My husband is in the ICU and the nurse did not have time to even spell it to me but was frantic about getting it from him to run it.

Answer:
It is called C. diff, short for Clostridium Difficile.

It is a type of bacteria found in the guts. They are normally benign, which means they usually don't cause disease. However, when someone is taking a lot of antibiotics, the antibiotics kills most of the bacteria in the guts, leaving only C. diff. C. diff would grow uncontrollable and at the mean time produce a toxin, which causes diarrhea. The characteristic of the diarrhea is watery, green, and very odorous.

To test for C. diff, you get the sample and send it to lab for the toxin. If the toxin is present, there are two antibiotics available to treat it.
