The concept of eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner have been greatly ingrained into our minds for years. In old times, general public had breakfast as soon as they woke up. Since most of the work be done in the field, noon be the time to look for shade and rest a little, and drink to regain energy for the afternoon slog. Dinner was served when men come back home from the field, at night. Eventually it turned into something customary.
The dearth of facilities to help yourself to food along with them made it easier to stick to the customary 3 meal a day.
Now, beside more information and research available we know it is not necessary to get through 3 hearty meal every 8 hours, but 5 smaller meals every 3 1/2 hours.

Eating three meals a time has become a custom. People within the office where on earth I work all jump to lunch at noon. That is their custom, and they munch through then, whether or not they are hungry. In Europe, most ethnic group tend to take their larger breakfast time at noon and solitary a light supper at dark. So how we divide up our meals depends profusely on custom.

I do know that for one of the meals, Breakfast, is for the actual breakdown of the residence, "Break" from a fast. You vigorous from your last teatime (Dinner) and this is your break from that fast. :)
I enjoy only done brief research on it, but in that doesn't seem to be one start to the three meals a daytime concept. I would think that, when competent to eat at will, the three meal ritual developed over time because we require a minimum of three meals to have a feeling well. First is the break within the fast experienced when we sleep. This would offer us energy to work or find our subsequent meal. After a spell of work, we require refueling, Lunch. And since it's difficult to sleep well beside an empty (or overly full) stomach, another feast is in proclaim 3-5 hours before bed.
