I want to eat food in the middle of the night, why?

Sometimes I will wake up in the middle of the night and eat food. What could help me stop this?

I am curious to see the answers, my husband wakes up every night and goes down stairs and eats cereal and he remains thin, he just says he's hungry, but he does eat breakfast , lunch and dinner each day. Maybe it just metabolism.
