How do you choose what length of barbell to use?

Barbells come in length of 5, 6, 7, (feet) or higher, how do you choose which to use? Is it base on your height or something else?

Answer:
The shorter the block is, the safer it is to use. Use the shortest bar that you can use while still have the weights clear your chest comfortably.
It should be wide ample so that the weights are spaced apart so they don't interfere with your lifting. If the weights are too close together, the discs will rub on your arm sometimes.

But, shorter bar are better if you don't have much space.
Depends on the quantity of your body your working on and what the exercise you're doing.
