Swimming for a flat stomach?
Answer:
i beg to differ with the other person that answered. i swam competitively for 12 years and i've always had awesome abs. you use your core muscles ( your abs and back) to help support you and keep you afloat while your swimming. your whole body is involved. i think it's a great exercise and i was always in much better shape during the seasons than in the off season. however, i was very serious about it and on two teams at once during some seasons. i'm not sure how much it will get you in shape with just 3 times a week. you do burn a sweat it's just not as obvious because you are in the water. as long as you get your heart rate up and do it for a prolonged period of time to burn calories you will get a good workout. best wishes and have fun!
Swimming is the worst exercise if your goal is to lose weight. The water insulates your body, so your body core temperature does not rise. Usually after a hard workout your body core temperature is raised and you continue to burn extra calories for hours after you have stopped exercising. As mentioned this does happen with swimming.
