I've started going to the gym. How long does the soreness last?

Answer:
That all depends on you. Age, pre-workout shape/fitness, workout style/routine, diet and rest are all important factors in determining how long it takes to heal from an exercise.

When you're just starting, you can typically expect the soreness in a body part to last at least two days. However, once you begin your second week of training, this soreness will more or less go away by the next day because your body has begun to get used to the work. Eventually it will change from a "hurt" soreness to a "worked out" soreness.

Remember, diet and rest are important. You have to eat right and sleep well in order to obtain maximum results and minimize pain. Also, drink PLENTY of water.

Good Luck!
About a week. Try to get some extra protein and vitamin E in your diet.
It will go away after a few good workouts. Try to rest for a day in between each workout.
Also, rest at least 24 hours before you work the same muscle groups again.
