Is going on a 1200 calorie diet good for my health to lose weight because i am 5 feet 6 and weigh 177 pounds?
Answer:
Why 1200 Calorie Diets Fail
Most quick fix, or 1200 calorie diets, work on the simple premise that if you starve yourself you will lose weight. What 1200 calorie diets, in particular, forget is that every body is different and the nutritional needs of one person may be dramatically different than another. Authors of 1200 calorie diets assume that the nutritional needs of each dieter are the same. This could not be further from the truth. Your good intentions may be setting you up for physiological starvation and ultimately failure.
Weight loss is based on the formula that if you burn more calories than you take in the net result will be a loss of body weight. The only way to experience long term and healthy weight loss is to do it slow and steady and with sufficient calories to maintain normal metabolic function. Quick weight loss results in losing muscle and water which, in turn, decreases your metabolism and increases the likelihood of gaining back all of the weight you lost, and then some.
While your body can lose more than 2 pounds in a week, IT CANNOT LOSE MORE THAN 2 POUNDS OF FAT IN ONE WEEK. This is a concept that is lost on most people. The diet that your neighbor is following that has allowed him/her to lose 10 pounds over the weekend is unhealthy and setting that person up for failure. They will become a victim of the yo-yo dieting cycle. It is a downward spiral that you want to avoid at all costs. It involves quick weight loss followed by an even greater weight gain and wreaks major havoc on your metabolism. It will make it harder for you to lose weight with all future dieting attempts.
Hopefully you are getting the idea. You see, for most people there is no such thing as a healthy 1200 calorie diet. Use this as a guide to help you on your way to better eating and increased health. Give yourself a little more time to lose the weight and you will have a better chance of finally keeping it off! go for it
god luck my friend and yes and break a leg
Most experts will say to reduce your diet about 500 calories a day to lose a pound of weight a week, which is the best way to maintain weight loss. One pound of fat equals about 3500 calories. 1200 calories will make the weight loss a bit slower.
yes, go for it. but what will really help you is calorie-count.com check it out. you can lose weight or maintain weight. it will tell you how much to eat, wat frame you are, and you can record what you eat so you can keep track of your calories! it made me lose 2 lbs in 1 week!
No. Dieticians recommend losing a max of 2 lbs per week. 3500 cals per pound = 7000 cals per week for 2 lb weight loss which is a 1000 calorie deficit per day. So aim for about 1800 calories per day and 40 min excercise. Without adequate nutrition you are at risk of regaining the weight, slowing down your metabolism or losing muscle mass. Try to make an appointment with your doctor/dietician to figure out a safe and healthy weight loss plan.
Are you male or female? That is very important. 1200 calories is sufficient for a woman but not for a man. It also depends upon what you are eating. Variety...you need fruits and vegetables and good quality protein every day, some dairy products or soy also every day and a serving (1/2 cup) of whole grains. Just any 1200 calories will not keep you healthy (if you eat only 1200 worth of junk food for instance.)
The average person requires 2000 calories a day to maintain their weight, anything less will help u loose the weight. 1200 cal is still a very resonable amout of cal to consume.
Yes, but MOST IMPORTANTLY, find your ideal calorie intake and exercise rate so when you get to your ideal weight YOU KEEP IT.
Ideally you should check with a doctor and/or nutritionist. The best way to lose weight is gradually, not all at once. It would be best to determine you basal metoblic rate (the number of calories you would burn just doing nothing). From there you add on the various activities you do in a day to determine how many calories you burn in a day. For me, by BMR was a bit over 1600 cal. Plus I cycled and did other things. I needed to lose quite a bit of weight and I consumed about 1600 calories a day and lost 1.5 pounds a week. I don't think you want to try to lose weight at a faster rate than that.
The other key components to losing weight were to eat only when I was hungry and to quit when I was no longer hungry. To do that I had to learn when I was really hungry and not just bored or what ever. Also eating slowly allows your mind to determine yes I am full so you can stop eating. When you eat fast, you consume food faster than your system can communicate that you are full, so you eat too much. Well enough for now, good luck.
