Getting Braces..?
Answer:
They usually put top and bottom on at the same time, but my brother got his on different times so im not totally sure.
Before the operation have a tylenol or 2 because it will hurt after you get the braces on.
You probably want a chap lips stick or something along those lines, i gets really uncomfortable and that really helps.
My orthodonist allowed me to bring an ipod turning the operation, you might want to check into that to see if you can.
Even though they say "dont have gum, popcorn, large pretzels, nuts, etc. You can do it anyway it doesnt really matter. I had nuts all the time and nothing ever happened to my braces.
the first week it might hurt, and its gonna feel really weird so you might want to have soup or something easy to eat.
You might feel wires poking your cheeks causing you pain, this is something everyone usually has to go through and it hardens quickly and it doesnt hurt then.
Oh My God. Are you kidding me? They are braces! I am getting mine on in less than I week and I am not even worried. Your just being a BABY. I am not trying to be mean it's just TRUE.
Well, get eating sticky/sugary foods out of your system before you get the braces on! When you have braces, you shouldn't eat gum, hard candy, caramel, popcorn, corn on the cob, etc etc etc...
If you get sensitivity at the dentist's, or think you might with a lot of "mouth work," take a couple of tylenol or ibuprofen before your banding appointment. It'll help lessen the inflamation(pain) that will occur when they put the braces on and limit the pain you feel afterwards. Also be sure to drink lots of water so you stay hydrated with your mouth open that long and have a meal BEFORE your appointment because you won't want to eat for a while afterwards.
Directly after you get the braces on, your mouth will feel "tight" and probably a bit painful. Just try to eat soft foods and drink lots of water until you get used to the feeling. Also, make sure to ask your orthodontist for wax to put over the braces. If you don't put it on, the brackets have tendency to irritate your lips/cheek from the rubbing. After a while, your mouth will most likely get used to it and you won't need the wax anymore, but you'll be happy you have it in the beginning. Other than that, just follow your doctor's instructions as closely as possible. You'll have a nice smile before you know it :)
Just have some tylenol or ibuprofen around the house, and some soft foods. Make sure you brush your teeth REALLY well while they are on or else you will end up with white spots on the middle of your otherwise yellow teeth.
Braces are a pain on the first few week. They are annoying, irritating, and painful, but if you just listen to what your orthodontist tells you to do, you'll be fine.
when i was getting braces, i was really scared, but it no big deal, and braces are really fun. well, when u get ur braces, itll hurt for like the first week straight, and ull have to eat really liquidy to semi-liquidy foods, so u dot really have to chew. until u get used to ur braces(2 or 3 wks), dont chew gum, but after that, there's really no prob, and u can eat everything. after braces, its not really hard, yet i realize i should wear my retainer every night, or else itll hurt the next time. thats basically it. i miss my braces, and i can tell u ur gonna have fun with the colors and everything.
You seem a bit nervous about the whole procedure, you shouldn't be though. I remember going to all the consultations before I got my braces, but I remember they weren't really all very interesting to me, it was mostly my dentist and parents talking about the whole procedure.
Before you get your braces, I would say, eat as much as you can! Because you might be sore after you get your braces and you might be able to eat solid foods just yet. Don't forget to brush your teeth before you go, and relax. Bring music or a magazine to the dentist, I remember when I got my braces and I had to stay there for like 45 minutes with my mouth wide open to "let them dry", it was quite boring all alone in the office! Ask them if you can bring a friend, that'd be cool!! Right after you might be sore a bit, because all of a sudden your teeth are dealing with a whole lot of stress and moving. For me the first night wasn't too too bad, the dentist only put on the brackets, and then like 2 days later he added the wire. With only brackets on, I had the time to get accustomed to the them, and then the wire came on and it started pulling on the teeth. After, I ate soft foods for like a week. Stay away from foods that can't be eaten with a fork/spoon, such as corn on the cob, apple, chicken wings, etc. (Unless you cut them into pieces). I also had trouble eating salad (lettuce) and rice, because the little pieces would stay stuck everywhere in my braces. DON'T eat hard things, such as lego candies and hard crusted bread. Your brackets could fall of, and once they fall they seem to be more prone to falling again.
To answer your last question, yes for me they had put al the braces on the same day , but I know some friends who did top on one day, bottom like 1 or 2 days after...
Good luck!
Your not a baby, I wa sin the same situation a few months ago. Lip Chap helps, and tylenol. Dont go no where without the tylenol! Eat soft food, like scrambles eggs, and when I take a shower, i fill my mouth up with water and my teeth feel fine!
they put the top and bottom braces on at the same time
and dont worry about it. it dosnt hurt at all. THEY SUCK!
have fun with them. =]
From personal experience, take some pain pills (Motrin, Tylenol...) about fifteen minutes before you get to your appointment, that way the pain won't be as intense during or after. And it does hurt when they put braces on (just so you're prepared) and will probably hurt for about a week. Stock up on soup and applesauce before you get them on, but after a few days start working your way up to solid food again. I don't know why, but if you go from soup to bread to pasta and so on it's easier to handle than just waiting and eating soup for a week. And they probably will put the top and bottom on the same day, but when you think about it, it's better to just get both of them on the same day so you don't have to go back. Oh, and for some reason, the bottom always hurts worse than the top. And during the appointment, just remember to be patient and think about things like the color rubber bands you want and the way your teeth will look when the braces come off. Because it is worth it, and if you just do what the Dr tells you to do, you'll be fine. Good Luck!
dont worry...i will be getting braces soon..well...before they put on braces, brush your teeth and clean them well..after you get braces, ive been told that you should eat cold food like ice cream.
***pink and light blue are cute colors
***NEVER get white or clear bands cause white looks like food is stuck in ur braces and clear like it u eat ketchup or a lollipop or somethin, they stain
***they put the bands, and then every time u go back u get to choose new colors
k
i have gotton em on over 6 times (dont ask!)
it doesnt hurt dont worry-it is just a long process and it tastes kinda bad
they give u a band on ur molars fiist, to see ur size and stuff
first theu put this positioner thing is ur mouth, it makes your mouth stretch a lkot so they can see ur teeth, it will bother u for a minute or 2 but u will get used to it, u keep that thing on the WHOLE time
then there are these things that look like shots and stuff, i got really freaked out when i first saw them but actually, they dont go in ur mouth! this is the cement that they put on ur braces then they stick the braces on ur teeth
**the cement kinda tastes bad!
they do this the first time and every time u get them tightened:
they will put the rubber bands on ur braces with things that look like sisscors (they dont hurt) after that they put the wire-this is the most anoying part cause after they slip it in ur mouth, they have to cut it to make it fit right
then that is it!Ur done
but after u do it, ask ur doctor for dental wax, and rubber cover up
when u get home use ACT mouthwash and for the first hour, ur teeth may be a little numb so drink mainly fluids-clear fluids
then for the first day or 2 ur teeth may be a little sensitive so stick with eating soup, pasta, pudding, jello, beans, yogurt, custard, fries, milkshakes, ice cream, and soft foods-avoid straws
every night use Peroxyl mouthwash for like a week to keep ur gums storng from cuts and use dental wax and rubber coverups so u wont get blisters, they hurt a little but arent that bad. avoid sleeping on ur side, try to keep ur head straight up for a couple of days
every morning and every night use the Peroxyl mouthwash again for 2 weeks then after that just use ACT mouthwash to keep ur teeth and gum s healthy. get some Super floss, made for braces-i sugest elictrical toothbrushes they keep ur mouth cleaner
dont worry-trust me- i have had my braces on for almost 4 years, i just got em off 6 days ago-i luv my new smile!
