Did the orthodontist dispense you something to bite on? My orthodontist gave me a entry to go surrounded by my mouth to bite on if the pain be intense. For some reason, it help relieve some of the pain.
Someone said get through cold stuff, but I think that's wrong. When I have braces, I found that what helped the most be swishing hot water around within my mouth, or drinking hot tea/hot chocolate. It helps to loosen the teeth up a bit.
Another point that helps is in recent times taking a paracetamol or ibuprofen. Just don't overdo it.
