Is it true that rinsing with mouthwash for too long will damage your gums?

I usually rinse for about 30-40 seconds but someone keeps telling me that its too long and it's not good for my gums.

Answer:
i never heard of that but i guess you should ask your dentist!
Try rinsing with tee tree oil- one drop of oil in a mug of water, it is a natural antiseptic and it wont harm your gums.
Absolutely not true. Rinsing daily with products such as Listerine, Scope, Crest-Pro Health, Act, Peroxyl, etc. is perfectly safe and has been tested and documented. The American Dental Association names Listerine as its recommended daily rinse to fight plaque and gingivitis.

Some rinses have high alcohol content and may "burn" a bit or temporarily cause dry mouth. The benefits of these rinses far outweighs their temporary discomfort.

Keep rinsing and tell a friend...
The mouthwash is fine you can rinse for however long but it shouldn't harm your gums.
