I wouldn't take an antibiotic for rust. Now if you have an infected tooth and inevitability a root canal next usually dentist prescribe penicillin if the tooth is bad plenty, however if you can't take penicillin or you already own amoxicillin that's up to the dentist.
I think this is in recent times an anti biotic, so should be ok as long as your doc has prescribed it.
You clutch what your dentist has prescribed for you and zilch else.

Amoxicillin is good with the sole purpose for minor wounds or inflammation but if we speak of infection, you need to apply a greater but safe concentration of medication.
