Dry socket? you be the judge.?

Ive had SEVERE pain in my mouth where they pulled my wisdom tooth for the past couple days. I went in Tuesday and the dentist cleaned it out with a syringe, then he packed it with some gauze with medicine in it. I went back today for horrble pain, and he did the same thing, because he said the pack fell out. Does this mean I have dry socket?

All i know is that im in severe pain! The stuff they put in my mouth has given me a HORRIBLE taste and it smells really bad...other than going to the dentist, what can I do to help relieve the symptoms...(pain and swelling). Do I need to keep rinsing with salt water? Can I still eat?

Answer:
It does indeed sound like a dry socket to me, but I can't see your extraction site. Take some Motrin or Advil. That will help with both pain and swelling. Keep the area as clean as possible. Sure, eat what you can tolerate. Generally, soft foods would be best; mashed potatoes, Jello, etc. Call the Dentist and tell him you'd like to be seen again.

Good luck!! I know dry sockets suck!
It sounds like you have it to me. You need to go back to the dentist.
Yes! You do have a dry socket. I too had a tooth pulled about 8 months ago and developeded a dry socket. It was the worst pain and actually didnt get any better for about a month. I was on Lortab for the severe pain I had. All they can do is pack it and wait it out till it heals. Good luck.
Sounds like a dry socket. Don't worry though, it will heal quite well on it's own. The hole will close. And as for the swelling, motrin is awesome or any anti-inflamitory will do, they're all the same. The doc should have given you pain meds with anti inflamitory in it. Just no smoking or sucking on straws or anything cuz you're likely to pull the blood clot out again. (the nasty red glob that was helping it heal but isn't there anymore) Good luck, yes, you can eat by the way. food will get stuck in the holes though, just rinse good and brush lightly around the area to get the food out.
That sounds like a dry socket to me. Follow your dentist
