Should I use gold to crown Premolar#12?

I'm torn between gold or porcelain fused!
porcelain looks natural like a tooth but has it's disadvantages.

Gold is touted as the best material and more user friendly but is not as cosmeticaly appealing like porcelain. I'm leaning towardss gold but would like some experienced advise!

Answer:
I would go with porcelain fused to metal, since you can see #12 when you smile, speak, etc... If the crown is made correctly and the occlusion is checked/adjusted, you shouldn't have any problems with it fracturing.
Hi,

I would personally opt for a porcelain crown.

I absolutely dislike gold restorations and I see many!

A dentist I regularly work with has a gold inlay and he is very happy with it. He actually thinks gold restorations are great! I say 'rather him than me, though'.

I much prefer a natural smile, so I would always suggest having a porcelain restoration.

Keep smiling (hopefully with a porcelain crown and not gold - my personal opinion, of course!)
I'd NEVER do anything but a full porcelain crown or a porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) crown on a tooth that's visible when I smile or speak! You do realized that tooth #12 is RIGHT next to your canine, or cuspid tooth, right? It would be really visible and would definitely stand out big time if you were to do a gold tooth.
NOT recommended.

I have an all-porcelain crown on #10 (right next to a front tooth) and I've never had any trouble with it-- no chipping or cracking, nothing. I've had it for over 2 years, and before that I had a PFM crown that was at least 10 years old-- no trouble with that crown, either. I would really only consider doing an all-metal crown on a molar, but even then I'd STILL probably do only a PFM crown...
