Depends on the type of pain. Is it hot/cold sensitive? Or an infection?
- warm salt water
- mouthwash w/hydrogen peroxide - start killing surface infection
- gel with mild pain reliever (the ones with the applicator brushes are nice)
- Advil - reduces swelling
GO TO A DENTIST!
For an infection, they're very likely to put you on a strong antibiotic to kill off the infection before they can fix the problem. Keep it up and you're going to have a root canal.
You could be getting an abscessed tooth which is VERY dangerous. The infection will travel to your brain (if the pain radiates from your tooth along the nerves - you're already showing signs of the infection spreading).

Well if you want to loose all your teeth and have severe infections all the time then orajel may work to remove some of the discomfort.But the only way to really get rid of the pain is to go to the dentist. go to the nearest pharmacy and ask for oil of cloves. it comes in a small bottle, doesn't cost much at all - less than £2. When you get home, put some on a cotton ball and put it on the sore tooth and gently bite down on it - hold it there for a minute or so then remove it. It tastes disgusting, but it's really good for the pain, it numbs the whole area for about an hour or so, then you can just repeat it over and over as often as you need to until you can get to the dentist.
