I am considering getting my lip pierced but have a serious concern- I am prone to canker sores. Basically, if I bite my lip or cut the inside of my mouth in any way, it usually turns into a very painful sore that takes a couple weeks to heal. Therefore, I'm worried that if I was to pierce my lip, it wouldn't heal like it would on someone who does not have this problem. Does anyone have any kind of insight on the matter?
Answer:
I have definitely seen allergic reactions to the metal jewelry used for lip piercing and it's not pretty. I am not sure if I have seen a piercing site get a canker sore but I usually see patients a while after it's done so they may heal. I would avoid it if I were you because you sound like you have a history of trauma induced sores.
