I took off my braces last week and i was told to wear my top retainer all the time.why?
Answer:
You're teeth will try to move back to how they used to be. Wear it. After 6 months, you can just wear it at nighttime.
Your teeth will be somewhat loose in their sockets for quite some time now that the steady pressure of the braces is off of them.
The retainer helps hold them steady while they settle into the sockets more firmly, so that they don't end up right back where you started.
I had braces twice for the total of about 5yrs, and the first time I didn't wear my retainers, that's why I had to get them a second time. Retainers are to hold you teeth in place since the braces make your teeth so sensitive and "loose" they keep them from going back to the way they were, until your teeth and gums get back to the strength that they were before braces. They also help fix over/under bites.
your teeth will still shift. the upper teeth are the most noticible, so thats why you need to keep the upper retainer on all the time.
if you don't wear it all the time then your teeth will move. when i got my braces off i didn't wear my retainer and my top teeth moved a little
