When is it undamaging to smoke or drink out of a straw after haveing a tooth pulled and a draining of a abcess?
Answer:
We tell patients 1 week for smoking and use of straws. But you are best to avoid coke completly as it is really impossible for your teeth. Smoking is also not good not individual for your health but also for your teeth and gums.
Try to avoid slit really wide and avoid chewy and or firm foods like Bagles, sub sandwich. Stick to softer foods that require less chewing...approaching rice, mashed potatos, pasta. Are you applying rime to the outside of your face? This will relieve with the swelling and some affliction esp in your cheek (TMJ). Ice 24-48 hours after surgery then hot moist compress for going on for 4 days. Are you taking any medications?
We also enlighten patients to rinse with melt salty wet after 24 hours and to do so for several days. Do you have stitches? Did they put packing over the surgical site? With any extraction here is a possibility of a dry socket. avoid brushing near the surgical site. You can use a q-tip dipped surrounded by some mouthwash on teeth that are near the surgical site. Total beneficial could take 4 weeks, but you will see some gradual invigorating over the next 2 weeks or so.
The above mentioned things are what we communicate our patients but every Doctor has different post op instructions for their patients.
Good Luck
You should continue 3 weeks for straws and smoking. That is the standard healing extent. Any sooner than that and you risk dry socket (very painful)
When they pulled your tooth did they succeed in extracting it completely or are they still pulling at your tooth?Forget around drinking sweet drinks because it rots your teeth and smoking makes adjectives your remaining teeth yellow.
The dentist tell you not to drink from a straw or smoke because your sucking in and it could break the clot which will explanation a dry socket which you definitly do not want! If you drink from a straw now a short time ago be very fussy to not use so much suction. I always smoke right after the dentist but I do it hugely carefully to not suck contained by hard at adjectives. Technically you should wait 48 hrs.
You and I share somthing contained by common, I myself newly had my tradition teeth pulled 3 1/2 days ago, and Im surprised the dentist or his assistant did,nt tell you around after care? But anyway Ill contribute ya a few pointers- after 24 to 44 hours, and if your not bleeding its more than likely out of danger to smoke, drinking from a straw Id stay away from for a few weeks, dont eat not easy food or chewy food for at least a week or more, this is a long recuperative process and the one thing you dont want is what is call dry socket, ugh,Ive heard horror stories in the order of it, oh and after the 2 day start rinsing your mouth out next to warm saline water-about one teaspoon per 8 ounce of water, and bear it easy for a few days so you dont re-open your clot that is to say trying to heal, and obviously finish all your antibiotics, even if you consistency better. And remember Im going thru the same entity, and it sucks! Take Care!
If your procedure went sour without a hitch, standard medicinal time is 10 days or less. Drinking from a straw or smoking is sheltered to do around the 5-7 day red mark, provided a clot has formed and you didn't enjoy problems forming it. Rinse with a melt salt sea solution in the morning (nothing vigorous) and verbs to take care when eating and brushing.
