Sounds like he did what is call an "apicoectomy", or snipping off of the root of the tooth where on earth the infection started. If the bubble doesn't go away surrounded by a few days get him to prescribe a round of antibiotics. Wow, $700 for an apicoectomy?? That's awesome, they are usually approaching $1400. Anyway, it is normal to experience sensitivity and soreness after this procedure, administer it another week and a half and the bubble and backache should be healed. If it isn't bid the dentist ASAP!
